Usually when the moon is only a quarter or half, you don't see the whole image or outline of the moon. What's the astronomy term for my question?

If you mean you see a quarter moon (or a half moon), and you can see the whole moon's outline, it still called a quarter moon (or half moon).

The outline effect is due to earthshine. Earthshine is the sunlight that the Earth's surface reflects back to space. Some of this light hits the moon, and lights it up so the outline is visible.

A gibbous moon is when it is somewhere between half and full. (Around 3/4 lit)
