SeaTac is notoriously bad about the communter traffic because it is the only airport for miles around. I always get there 2 hours before anyways for a flight. It was horrible the day of and the day after the terrorist plot was unfolded, but they have called in everyone they can now to work at the security lines and now it is moving more smoothly. Getting into SeaTac won't be bad, it may be from whatever airport you are leaving from, but watch the news for when you depart to know how much time you should give yourself at the airport before your flight. I would suggest 4 to 5 hours ( I know that's a lot of time) but ask someone while you are there what a reasonable amount of time would be to get there.

I actually just stopped working here at the Phoenix airport but my roommate still works for the airlines there as a manager. He's actually in a meeting tomorrow with the TSA learning the new procedures in screening people. It's a mess though. I've heard now that you should allow 3 HOURS at the airport. It's crazy. No liquids or gels at all. My roommate went to work the other day and his throat spray was confiscated and thrown away. Can't take anything-toothpaste, hair stuff, nail stuff, water, drinks, all included.

My boyfriend flew since the new restrictions, and he said the biggest hassle was getting your checked luggage after the flight had landed...because most airports aren't adequately prepared to deal with the increased number of checked items.
Other than that, he said he didn't notice much difference.

seattle in particular is very bad. they're suggesting get there at least 3 hours early. since Seatac is nothing but one long slow moving line, that may not be enough.
