Trilox the garden and hire a lawn service to mow. Have a couple neighbors keep an eye on the place. You are now free to roam about the world. And when you get home, you'll feel like home.
Would NOT suggest downsizing into a condo or apartment unless you've lived in them before and understand that you can hear noisy neighbors through walls and in some cases even smell neighbors who are smoking. If you grew up in close quarters or live in a townhouse now, then you're better able to make this decision.

I think it really depends on how much time you are planning on spending traveling. If you are going to be at home quite a bit, you might want to consider just downsizing to a smaller house that still has a yard. That way, you can get a little money out of it, plus be saving some money with utilities, but you could still have a garden. In fact, you could just install a timed sprinkler to take care of the watering if that was your issue.

Get a Alarm system for your home and have a yard service take care of the property when you are not home. If you buy a Condo. I don`t think it will ever feel like HOME.

Oh, my gosh . . . No! You will not regret downsizing. The trimmer you make your life, the better it gets at our age. Get rid of EVERYTHING. Keep treasures and such. But, weed it all out, get into a smaller living space with a great view, travel to your hearts' content, and stop cleaning everything all the time. Chose lighter, airier furnishings, brighten and modernize your wardrobe, take all the phtograghs out of their frames and put them in albums, set up ALL your clothes and change your clothes in the same room with your laundry/ironing board and use it as a dressing room to stop the lunacy of hauling laundry to and fro, buy forty matching see-through tupperware tubs for dry goods (one for popcorn, one for oatmeal . . . crackers, flour, sugar, artificial sweetner packs, powdered sugar, brown sugar, salt, snacks, pasta, packets of mixes, coffee, teabags, etc. .. EVERYTHING from the cubboard that can be stored in such tubs. . .throw away all commercial packaging (I toss the oatmeal recipe off the box into the tub on top), RESIST the urge to label the tubs (KISS ... keep it simple stupid) and store together in easy access open display somewhere in your kitchen. Do NOT hang tools and such elaborately. Just store in see-through tubs. Store electric cords in large zip-lock bags. Basically, store and arrange your belongings as though you are going to move in one year. It helps to wean out stuff, a little more at a time. And, when everything, even your make-up, is in containers, it's an absolute breeze to clean house. NOTHING goes on the floor except furniture . . . I mean, reduce the stuff that you have to move to vacuum or sweep around, including too many scatter rugs. Use the internet to shop . . . reduce whatever percentage of your life is spent shopping and use that time to do NOTHING but goof off together. Reduce your memberships in social organizations, reduce your social obligations, reduce the length of your hair. :) I love not being a slave anymore to my home and garden. It's amazing the time we waste by continuing to follow through in the accumulative habits of our daily lives, and even used-up dreams, that really don't mean as much as they once did. Blessings on your new life and home.
