I think it will help you more to just go live life than just reading about it.

Here's an excellent suggestion from the best "self help" book you could ever read that you can apply to any of the other ones you might pick out.

James 1:22 But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves. 23 For if anyone is a hearer of the word and not a doer, he is like a man who looks intently at his natural face in a mirror. 24 For he looks at himself and goes away and at once forgets what he was like. 25 But the one who looks into the perfect law, the law of liberty, and perseveres, being no hearer who forgets but a doer who acts, he will be blessed in his doing.

In other words, whether you read the Bible and receive divinge guidance for your life, or you get a book on how to manage your money more effectively or something like that, neither will do you any good if you only read them and don't make the effort to put into practice what they have to say in your daily life.

You can read this book on line @ http://web.express56.com/~bromar/ along with many other books that can help you to live your life in a way that will lead to greater success in the long run.

Depends on how hard you want it to IT you!

Personally I stay away from self help books, because in the first instance they help the author and publisher of said book. It's better to keep a journal of your own life experiences and mark points of attention. If you have a lot of those figure out how to improve on them while keeping the skills you 'master' fresh by practicing and acting them. There really is no better book than life itself and most of these so called self help books are tailored for and by their respective authors. Though at some point you may have IT so many universal points that you could write your own book and exploit your experience so to speak.

If you want to know things nowadays do a pre survey on the web, check out websites of books that look like your thing and check out that vastly expanding wikipedia thing.

My 2 cents.

Mate, you won't fix the car by reading the manual. Sooner or later you just have to pick up a spanner and get your hands dirty.

There is no such thing as good self-help book - the only people who profit from them are the authors.

not a great deal, i fear. self help books are generally written by people with no training, aside from, possibly, a personal set of experiences, and what works for them is likely not to work exactly the same for you. strangely, the great works of fiction (the western canon) are some of the best REAL self help books, out there, as they give us a look into the minds, emotions, and motivations of others, allowing us to empathise with (or just get out of the way of) them. dickens is a good start. dostoevsky works, as well.

It all depends on what you take out of it. Its the same thing as asking, whether on-job training will help me. The only difference is that you will learn from another person
