I think you need a new doctor if your current one can't manage the MS well, as far as pain management is concerned. I advice that you should not try any remedies by experiment as, even how much 'natural' they claim to be, may be a factor that can worsen multiple sclerosis more. Remember that MS involves the brain and the immune system - difficult to mess with, eh?

Usually the drugs that are usually given to MS patients include Avonex, Betaseron, Mitoxantrone, Rebif, Natalizumab. However, these drugs should be given and monitored by a licenced doctor (never experiment!). These drugs, I'm not so sure if they are indeed very effective in "treating" ms, but as far as they are concerned, they usually slow the progression of MS by altering the body's immune system. In layman's term, they revert the body's defense squad from heightened alert to minimal so that they don't attack innocent civilians mistaking them for terrorists(in this situation, your own nerves).

You said you don't want to see your friend in pain. My best suggestion is that you find a doctor skilled enough in pain management. That way, your friend won't have to suffer too much.

This is a degenerative neuromuscular disease and it just gets progressively worse as heartbreaking as this is to witness or experince. I speculate that your friend's is progressed pretty far by now from what you gave as a time frame...with this disease the worst part is often the persons lack of control over their own body ,the simple things like having to ask for a drink of water if you want one ,to have to ask someone to scratch your nose...the pain meds often take away what little control that is left in alertness, many do not want to sacrifice living (even in pain) as alertly as possible as long as possible. The best thing you could do for your friend is to remember who she is apart from the disease... If she was an English teacher ask her if she wants to go to Shakespeare in the Park and arrange it if possible or ask her if she had a favorite poet,if a Biology Prof. read from the newest Scientific American...Be observant of the little things and ask her before she has to ask someone to do some inane thing...most of all be comfortable with her dying process, which is what you are involved in... don't be in denial and search around for "miracle cures" DON'T SUBJECT HER TO ANYTHING THAT WOULD WASTE HER TIME or focus on her illness , focus on her, your friend who was a whole person with a life before MS overshadowed all of her interactions with others. Unless it is her asking you to research this, which I doubt. I'm all for alternative medicine and I'm really truly fond of a beautiful miracle, but for everything there is a season ...recognise the season....Do what she wants, think of or remember her loves in this life...Gardening,yorkshires,quilting...does she want to write down any part of her life for her children, does she need a letter written, does she have her affairs in order,I would be surprised if she didn't...how long does she think she have? Does she want to clear up any spiritual concerns ...is she at peace ? Have the guts to be where she is :that's what she is doing even though it costs her in physical discomfort....GOD bless you in being a true friend at this time, many fade away when the party is over...and all that's left is the dishes. If you tell your friend you want to be there for her she can best tell you what you can best do. Sometimes just a silent presence is golden. There used to be a book Dying with Dignity it is excellant.

I dont think this info will be any good to you but antthing worth a go. A lot of ms sufferers dont have ms. People who drink diet drinks and use artificial sweeteners are being poisoned and the symtoms are the same as ms.its a recent discovery.

dr's can help this- but if you read a Medicine Book - the only way to heal this is by laying hands on this person and pray. Cannot be healed by humans. Only God can heal this.
