forget the gym. Do as many abdominal flexion, compression, rotation exercises as you want. The secret to abs is you will have to become more aerobically fit to lose weight in that area. What about your diet. You will have to give up all types of snacks sodas and prepackaged garbaged. Stick to fruits vegetables, small servings of: complex carbohydrates, proteins. Lots of water to help with digestion.

pretty much all stomach excercises like crunchs can easily be done at home unlike other areas of the body where you percifically need to use weights or some sort of resistance machine. Its just easier to train at the gym as you tend to be more motivated when you are there than if you are at home, and if you,ve got a bit of a belly you will need to do some sort of cv as well to get the fat off.

No gain without pain, only option is "HOME GYM".
side crunches, reverse crunches, sit up gradually increase .
don't forget aerobics and follow diet plan, otherwise strength will be there under the layer of fat but no visible muscle.

Wear one of those t-shorts that has a 6 pack on it. :) Lay on the ground and put your hands at your sides and straighten your legs then lift them up (about a 45 degree angle) then lower them but don't touch the ground. Do a bunch of those. :)

I wanted to know the same thing so I went to about.com to find out. The "bicycle" technique is the best way. Go to about.com and see for yourself.

I tried it before and it definitely works.

I think you should also try doing cardio (running, walking, jumproping, swimming) for 30 minutes a day as well.
