In elaboration of pearlsawme's pretty good answer: there are electric charges, which are the starting points of the lines of electric field, but there are no magnetic charges (as far as we know) so nowhere for the lines to start.

In fact it is the difference between an electric and magnetic field.

Any magnetic field is a closed one; whereas an electric filed starting at a point ends in infinity.

If we take the starting point as the north pole of a magnet, the field ends in the south pole and then inside the magnet it goes from south pole to north pole thus forming a loop.

Therefore, any point is the starting point and the same point is the end, thus forming a loop.

For this no diagram is needed.

they are not actually in a closed loop..... ;diagram i cannot show it to you but you try this:
take a sheet of paper place the bar magnet exactly in the middle of the paper and north pole pointing to the north and south pole to the south now get a compass place it near the north pole needle deflects in some direction now with a pencil tick the point in which direction the needle has turned now you place the compass on that point now again it deflects showing a direction and continue at last you will reach the south pole of the magnet so you will note the line joining all the points is a semi ellipse (it may also be a semi circle)so you see actually the lines of force are two broken semi ellipses.

Yes magnetic lines of forces are in a closed loop in bar magnet.Because both poles of bar magnet can not be separated.and magnetic lines of forces are from north pole to south pole in magnet and inside the magnet lines are from south pole to north pole so these lines make a closed loop
