It's always advisable to see the doctor regarding your back but what you can do for the meantime is to apple hot-compress at the lumbar (lower back) and saccrum (near the buttocks). This reduces any tension around the area and to relieve the pain temporarily. Herbal hot-paks are good as some has lavender in them to soothe and calm you down. Drink hot beverages and never cold or iced. Wear clothings that fully cover your tummy and back to keep that area warm.

I had a fall in 1996 fracturing my neck and back in 3 places. I know how you feel. Sciatica can come and go. It can be irritated to the point to cause bad or constant pain. If you haven't had an x-ray or MRI yet, see your doctor. He will probably start with X-rays. Insist on an MRI if you do not get any answers from the X-rays. If surgery is suggested, seek a second AND a third opinion. To this day, I have not seen anyone with successs from surgery. I had surgery on my neck to keep me from being paralyzed. My pain is chronic, bad i never have a day without pain.

Sciatica does not have to be constant, and what you are describing certainly sounds like it. Its always a good idea to see a doctor to make sure it is nothing else. If you are not a regular exerciser, you need to start. Walking is good for back pain sufferers. Riding a bike would be another good alternative. Also exercises to strength your abdominal muscles are important.

Did you receive a epidural when you were pregnant because that can be the cause? ALso, please don't take it personal, but if you are carrying extra weight that can give you pains in you back. You probably need to have a deep tisue massage.

Good luck babe
