Good question, one that shows palpable intelligence on the part of the questioner.
You clearly have looked into some of the deeper questions in life and still come out wanting...my response is that it is the nature of Capitalism and NOT the human condition to always want more, in fact we humans have had many eras of contentment, this is not one of them, but we will get there again, when we realise everything we're looking for is inside each of us and not in the world of things.
We do get conditioned to expect new things to come along all the time, and that has been the case for a awhile now, but science has slowed down, we have less and less new discoveries, the age of technology has reached its peak and now tumbles into oblivion, whilst we still expect more and more things to come along and attract our attention, spend our money and take our minds of the real world, the real life, where everyone struggles to find authenticity and purpose.
Your question is a spiritual one and i thank you for posing it, the key is to curb all desires and wants so that nothing can stir your inner peace, i'm not there yet but i can see that enjoying nothing and therefore not NOT enjoying anything is the place to get to. All we need is our hearts to beat and lungs to draw air into our bodies and human contact i think, shame we've poisoned all three!

This is a two part question.
1. Why would someone never be happy with what they have?
Ask this question: Would that person be happy to lose what they already had? Insecurity is usually the reason for unhappiness with regards to what someone has.
However, someone could be unhappy for many other reasons not related to them as well. Usually though, the reason is related to them.
2. always strive for more?
A person who is never satisfied, is a jealous person who sees that someone else has more than them and so demands more. => the motivation is jealousy
Such a person could also be someone who is a bully => the motivation is greed
The person could appear to be never satisfied, but in fact is generally very happy and so it is an illusion to the observer => the motivation is illusion
Generally you should ask what is the payoff in obtaining more for that person. Do they get 2 points for answering a question, do they get a new level and extra POWER?
In general the answer appears to be that such people are control freaks. They therefore probably have children.

Has anyone, at one point in time, ever owned the universe? None, of course. Therefore, one may be content once he has everything he wants. But I still highly doubt that. Ask yourself, too... are you sure you're already content with what you have? Aren't you willing or dreaming to achieve/obtain/possess/control something better? I'd say it's good for you if you strive harder to get that "something better" because it's initially entirely for your own benefit; and it's still be better if you share it with everyone else close to you. So what do you think? Happy yet?

Well my answer is maybe a bit strange but I think that we're not happy because we have something. I think we are happy if we could finally reach our aims.
I finished high school in this summer and I really wanted to get in at that university which I have chosen. I didn't wanted another. I worked really hard. I learnt a lot to do my best on the exams. I finished my exams at 15.June. And when I got to know that I can study on that university (it was on the 26. July), well I think I was never happier before because that means a lot to me. And still I'm happy that I could reach my dream.

Because a majority of young people get the idea in there head that they should move one up from their parents era an try to do better so they can prove all around them a point. And when they have got everything they can achieve they look for something bigger to spur them. Its an ego thing

Thought is essentially a problem solver, but we have allowed it to take over our species . It is such an effective tool that we focused on it more and more as we sought physical security.
In the end we have come to identify with it to the degree that most people have a constant stream of chattering in their heads, most of which is completely useless, but which leaves us restless, and seeking escape from the tensions it brings.
Thus we have thought ,trying to use thought to escape thought . This is a never ending cycle ,unless one is determined to revolutionise one's view of reality.
Most people however do not see it this way ,so they pursue happiness through the orthodox channels of their society ,and according to the habits they have learned and invested in : usually material possessions ;relationships ;pleasure and religion.
There's nothing wrong with any of these natural things ,just as there's nothing wrong with ,say, eating. But if you carry on eating after your body has enough ,it leads to problems ,and difficult to break habits.

It's human nature to want more and to want to aquire more. My personal opinion as to the reason lies within religious boundaries I don't think I can get into now.
It can be summarized by saying, the grass is always greener. Try to appreciate something in your life today, and be thankful for it.

i'm chuffed with what i have were given. i imagine the media convinces us that we "favor" that new set of pots and pans, or the sparkling automobile tires. and then human beings experience unhappy at the same time as they dont get them. they imagine the persons next door have those nifty new Christmas light fixtures, why dont I? yet as others say, the trick is to experience free with what you've. also, one needs to seem for stability and choose how a lot artwork they are prepared to positioned into some thing and what reward they could experience is deserving. operating example, in case you presented to pay me $10 an afternoon to shovel hog manure for 10 hours an afternoon i ought to inform you to get bent. yet in case you presented me $1000 an afternoon for a similar pastime, i ought to likely provide you with a huge hug. the perception is to get sufficient to be chuffed and under no circumstances problem about getting the tremendous pay day. discover your middle floor. also, i imagine human beings in advanced international places ought to imagine of themselves as "unhappy" because we've extra time to imagine about it. in case you spend all day making particular you may have a meal that evening, or shoes on your feet, you likely wont be spending alot of time considering the that technique of existence. "Boy, is operating in this sweatshop sewing soccerballs for 15 hours an afternoon particularly what i opt to do with my existence? perhaps i must be happier being a vet."
