always always always split eights

i may even double up on them in this case - dealer has a bust card but i would want to know if deck was rich in face cards - although frankly might double regardless

You would split the eights. Hopefully you'll get more 8's and are in a casino that lets you split up to 4 times. Then hopefully you'll get to double down on some on those 8's. Then the dealer will draw 2 monkeys and bust and you win a small fortune.

Always split aces and eights.

Go to http://casinogambling.about.com/library/blbjmstrat.htm to see a copy of the basic strategy card, which will answer all of those questions.
