I had a bag of stuff i just bought at a store. I walked out, and remembered something else, i went back in. one of the checkers flipped out, and came very short of accusing me of shoplifting. I could have sworn the twit said, "you are in trouble!" but i can't be sure of it. if i was sure, i would hire a lawyer. anyway, they said that whenever going in the store, i must tell them i have a bag of stuff, for security reasons.

Here's a good question. LOTSA women carry purses. how come they never have to check their purse in with security? they can easily shoplift, especially if the purse is big. I never see this. It's only someone carrying a backpack, or a shopping bag, that gets stopped. potential female shoplifters carrying purses can go about their business, with no questions asked.

If it is not the store's policy for all bags to be checked before entering the store you still have grounds for a suit---The policy must be posted for all to see when entering the store---Furthermore, when you were stopped coming into the store for shoplifting your rights were violated---you can not be accused of shoplifting until you are leaving the store--you must be at the exit door----you can also file a slander suit against the store clerk---

I work in retail and usually there's a sign posted asking for the bags to be checked in, usually either checked meaning they hold the bags for you or they'll staple it shut, in my store, babybags, backpacks, plastic bags and such are tagged with a color paper, one goes inside the bag and one goes on the outside, this way on their out we get the paper from inside and outside as for a lady with a huge purse Loss Prevention, inside store security will keep a watch on them thru their cameras.

If a woman with a large purse was stealing it depends rather she was watched by Loss Prevention, if she were to leave setting the sensors off the door person is suppose to ask for a receipt first and ask the woman to walk thru the doors again, if she goes off the second time the door person can request to look inside her purse but that's up to the woman or suggest in helping her find the item setting it off because surely the sensors would go off in other stores when she walks thru...

What the store clerk did was awful and you should've requested a manager on the spot to make a complaint against the clerk and contact the store's owners on a website if they have one and make a complaint there as well. But remember if that does happen again just remember to keep your receipt for the items you bought and request a store manager. If something like that happened in my store that clerk/checker would've been fired on the spot for even almost accusing.

If you want to sue, you have to prove that you lost monetary value in something or you have been damaged in some way. You have no case to sue. It would be a frivolous lawsuit that wouldn't even make it to court. Your best power is to complain to corporate for some sort of compensation, or choose never to shop there again. Word of mouth is a very powerful tool, so their corporate big wigs might try to make you happy by compensating your with credit at their stores. That would be the best thing to do. Be very nice when complaining, because you seem more legit when being civil to them. If you are an a$$, they might just blow you off and tell you to deal with it. I own a restaurant and I handle people differently that sound like they are not trying to get something for free. Hope this helps.

You don't need a lawyer unless they called the cops. I steal clothes from 3 malls everyday and no one has stopped me. Just take like all the clothes you can into the dressing room (no one ever asks to count your items at J C Penny, Kohl's, Sears...) and stuff 8 or 9 shirts into your purse! It works EVERY time, almost to well cause I cant stop!

omfg this happened to me when I went to a Circuit City!

i had a backpack, that's where i carry my credit/debit cards, cash, and checkbooks. I came in to buy a nice new laptop. The guy stopped me when I came in because he thought I stole stuff and it took him like 15 minutes to let me go!

I called the manager on him. Plus, I bought the laptop I wanted at a nearby circuit city instead. The manager was so mad that he fired the guy right in front of me.

Teached them a lesson.

It's too bad they didn't accuse you of shoplifting. It would have been traumatic, but you had a receipt.

If they had accused you and security had brought you to their office, they would have been liable and most stores will automatically give you a high dollar amount of merchandise just to keep you from suing them.

It would have been an early Christmas this year! Too bad.
