Why are American teenagers so worried about what they wear on their first day of school?
I haven't noticed this in the UK, but it seems that many young American men and women are too focused on how they look at school.

Why is this so?

I believe its about "First Impressions". The way one dress will determine the group of friends that you will have for the next few days. If you dress very fashionably, you will draw friends who has similar fashion sense.. while the rest, will sort of being grouped as "outcast"..

Basically, it makes no sense to me.. school is a place to learn and makes friends.. its not a fashion runway..

Most teens are always worrying about what other people think. and people judge by appearance easily. I personally want to make a good impression on the first day of school and keep that impression up. honestly i think how kids look at school is part of their social status.
