The first thing you have to do to start a reaction paper is to read or hear about a topic and then react to it, using your own words and beliefs and values. You don't need to do research for a reaction paper. Quite frankly, if it were me writing the paper, I would also forego the "third person" and use the personal pronoun "I" quite a bit. Of course, that depends on your teacher too. Some English teachers, especially, are still in the dark ages on the use of personal pronouns in academic papers.
