I'm feeling weary and would feel better if the government was more in control and not afraid to take a "Sopranos" approach to dealing with terorrism. Until the time comes that we seal the borders of the country from illegal migrants (Mexico and Canada), we can do a lot of window dressing by doing heightened security screenings, we are at an extreme threat.

I live in the UK and all my life I can remember terrorism, or the effects of terrorism.
I have memories of being stuck on trains because of terror threats at railway stations. I remember watching the news as a child, horrified at the Remembrance Day Bombing at Enniskillen. I remember seeing the pictures of Lockerbie after the bombing of Pan Am flight 103, and thinking how horrible, to be lying safe in your bed at night and having a plane fall out of the sky onto you and your neighbours.
Most distinctly I remember visiting Warrington shortly after the IRA bomb that killed two children. There were bunches of flowers on the pavement, but the town was filled with busy shoppers going about their business. Because that's what you have to do, you have to get on with things. Remember the dead, oppose the terrorists, but don't ever let them win.
So no, I don't feel threatened by terrorism, because it's been there all my life. Living with terrorism is my default state. To feel threatened by terrorism, I'd have to know what it felt like to live in a world without it.

The point of terrorism is to terrorize (duh). So if we let it get to us, they win. I'm not afraid of them, so they haven't met success where I'm concerned (but the rest of America is another story).
It's ridiculous how so many people are so panic-stricken even though terrorism isn't likely to strike in most places in America. The government & the media have you scared out of your mind for no good reason. Like Colin Powell said, "We're Americans! We don't walk around terrified!" Granted, that makes us no better than everyone else, but we're still more secure than someone in, say, Israel or Sudan.

I am more uncomfortable with Bush trampling our constitutional rights.
The odds that terrorism will affect me personally is less than being struck by lightning.

No, it's impossible to live in fear all the time. You have to get on with your life and just take ordinary precautions.
