Yeah, the first time I ever tried them, I had to be pretty drunk...
I think it either depends on the snails or how they are prepared. I have had then soft and fairly tender and I have had then like rubber!
I have cooked them myself in a lemon, garlic, butter, anchovy sauce that is really delicious and they seem to be a bit more tender if you cook them longer at a lower temp.........

Yes - people who can afford a fine gourmet resturant with a proper cook can eat delicious escargot. People who order or eat it at a buffet crapshoot resturant eat just what they need and deserve.

i kind of agree with "greg". when we were in aruba a few weeks ago, i had my first chance at trying escargot, i figured "why not?" they were sauted with garlic, onion and peppers, served with a sauce on puff pastry. to be honest, they tasted like satued portabella mushrooms, and yes, i do agree that they are over rated. but tastey.

They have a special flavour and yes, they are not as soft as marshmellows. But they are tasty.

I tried it once, and didn't think it was anything special. Overrated if you ask me.
