I haven't seen any games that require much more than a P4. But I would highly recommend at least a AMD 64 3000+ If you have the money, go with a dual core chip. I would recommend at least 1 GB of ram. The video card is going to be the major component in playing games. I am an nVidia fan myself, but ATI does a good job, and you just need to look around. I would recommend something with at least 128 MB of memory, and you should be fine.
If you want something really powerful, get two video cards and chain them together.

If you want a puter for just games...512 Meg SDRAM (dual channel), 200 Gig SATA hard drive, with media manager...
With dual channel, you can upgrade to 4 Gig.

its more what can you afford. you really need 2 main things. a decent amount of RAM over 512mb and a decent card 256mb. other than that you should be ok.
