For example, will we one day be able to buy a "play guitar" program that when downloaded into our brain allows us to play the guitar without ever having practiced?

Probably centuries.

We do not even know how the brain encodes this information. But we do know its a mixture of connections and chemicals, so goes way beyond how our technology works.

Worse still, the capacity of the human brain is absolutely huge.

Think of this. An ant can move and navigate its environment better than any robot. It can have complex evolved behaviour - for instance it builds nests. It can have complex social behaviour - it lives in colonies.

And it has about 1000 neurons in its brain.

We are just soooooo far off this.

It depends on how soon we can get nano's in our brain or elsewhere in our body with the least probability of rejection and the best possible 'mental' conductivity.

Check Ray Kurzweil about this topic, he knows much more about it than I do and is way better informed otherwise.

I hope not long because I know some people who could use a "dose of reality" download and a few who need a "common sense" download. I wouldn't mind having one for Contemporary dance.
