Yes, I have seen it.

Before it came out, I did some research, and what I found out was that it is all fiction. Supposedly, someone told the filmmaker about vacations you can take where you can torture and kill people. It's based on the fact that you can buy pretty much whatever you want in Thailand. The article I read, which was in a print magazine, debunked the story. Apparently, it sprang from the fact that some young prostitutes have been killed while being sexually exploited in Thailand. Yes, they were handed over to the men who killed them, but no, they were not handed over with the understanding that they would be killed. The men got out of hand. There have actually been sex tourists who have been arrested for killing young prostitutes. Some of the brothels do cater to sadists, but the prostituted people make money for the panderers, so it makes no sense to allow them to be killed.

I looked and cannot find a link, but there was one case specifically where a man tied up a young girl, and raped and beat her over several days. He went out and partied, and when he came back to his room to release her, she was dead. Rather than tell the owner of the brothel, he tried to run, but he was caught at the airport, and forced to stand trial.

So no, the story in the movie Hostel is all made up. It took some tragedies that have happened in real life and took them one step further. The movie was hyped as being based on true events because that gets people interested and sells more tickets, that's all.

I've seen it, the story is basically about killing people for fun...people pay large sums of money to get other people to bring victims to this place so they can murder them in any way they see fit. as far as being based on true events, that doesnt mean anything. that means that sometime since the dawn of time someone might have done something similar to something that happened in the movie....its a vague way to make you more creeped out by the movie i say...anyway....bloop.

Cool flick...only thing that disappointed me was I was hoping for a bit more gore...my understanding is that it was inspired by rumors that something like this actually takes place in Thailand...so far no one has said anything to confirm it, but considering some of the other things Thailand is notorious for, mainly child prostitution (and i mean CHILDREN, not just teenagers)...I can't say I'd be surprised one way or the other

I saw it on DVD the night it was released. I am not sure if it is really based on true stories or not. It was a good movie if you like gore and suspense. According to IMDB it was based on Tarantino hearing about a website promoting torture vacations but that he never confirmed its existence. Click here: http://imdb.com/title/tt0450278/trivia

Hope this helps.

I bloody hope not. Its about a few american tourists that find a hiddeen hostel filled with beautiful women, then they get sold off, then there is guts gory scenes and beautiful women. I wouldn't watch it again. Good enough to watch only once.
