What do you think should be the minimum sentence for rapists and child molesters?

I don't understand why they only get a few years in prison. To me rape is rape. If it's stranger rape, then you're more likely to be sent to prison for a longer period of time. But if it's by someone you know, chances are they are not going away for long. I think the minimum should be at least 30 years and I think the death penalty should be a possibility.

I'm loving the answers, keep them coming. The castration is a definitely a good idea!

Pedofiles should never be let out if they can not be reformed . All it does is make us parent sscared tolet our children out of our sight. There are a very few who can actually change and they I gues should be given a chance. However I donot think they should be allowed around children. Rapists need more severe punishments to get the point across that they are doing something wrong. I do not know a definitive answer only that the sentences need to be harsher.

It's been proven that most pedophiles (or child molesters) can not be rehabilitated. They're just sexually attracted to children...no amount of psychotherapy or medicine can change that. So I agree with the castration bit. If you take away the parts that made him want to rape/molest in the first place, there won't be any problem. And, personally, I wouldn't want them to be able to procreate later in life and pass on those scary genes.

I partailly disagree with your fact because there has been low reoffending cost with people who've been under rehab classes for intercourse offenders, yet I do agree we decide for needed minimums for intercourse offenders. reason A being via fact we decide for them locked away for an prolonged time to alter, section B being it is going to render lots of those stupid residency requirement regulations for intercourse offenders ineffective. the stable situation is people are finding to enforce Jessica's regulation in some style.

That is a good idea! Rape and molesters should at least get the same as murder. Sure, it is not killing, but the torment and trauma they put someone else through can last for a lifetime, especially if they do other things to hurt the person, like beat them. BARE MINIMUM=Physical castration and visible facial branding. The animals need to have their genitals REMOVED surgically, NOT pharmaceutically. They should be BRANDED with a clearly identifiable mark on the face so EVERY person will know exactly what they are.

They should cut off there tool of evil, FASHION A NECKLACE WITH IT & make them wear it around there necks while rotting in prison! Then when they die feed the repeat offenders to the hogs and the rest should be used for science testing (nuclear experiments, poison gases, experimental drugs, shoot them into space to see if they blow up, crash car dummies, recreate crime scenes with them (real reinactmeants), train killer dogs with them, use them as military target practice, send them ahead of our soldiers to trip any mines or ambushes, then they would have served a purpose!!!
