My wife thinks I'm thinks I'm making up the slang term Boob Tube.

Yup. It's an older piece of slang when people could call a foolish person a "boob"

No doubt ive heard this many times,i believe back in the 50's-60's the term Boob tube related to the shapes of the television screens back then,a full rounded shape hence BOOB TUBE,it wasnt called that due too nudity on television though because there was no nudity on t.v. at the time,they wouldnt even show Elvis Presley from the hips down(they labeled it to racy)maybe they thought he would encite riots or get women pregnant via the Boob Tube hahahaha.;) I could be wrong but its a good theory.

Boob tube is an old expression.....yes, I am very familiar with it....watch too much and you turn into a boob.....a lazy one at that.
In American and Canadian slang, a boob tube is a television set; normally negative or humorous, this usage comes from the words boob (a foolish person) and tube (from the television's cathode ray tube)

According to the Oxford English Dictionary (much more reliable than wikipedia) boob tube referes to both television and a tv set. In the UK it refers to a tight fitting stretchy strapless top.

In the UK a Boob Tube is a form of woman's top. Tight fitting, showing the shoulders and sans shoulder straps.
In the US, a boob tube is a negative and comedic description of TV, boob from fool, and tube from cathode ray tube.

YEAH..my grandpa calls is the BOOB TUBE..it cracks me up everytime..i say it on occassion for a laugh..so yes..she must be crazy if she hasnt heard boob tube b4

No. A boob-tube is a strapless top for women. The tv. is just called the tube from the old days.
