Ask one of your teachers to give you some extra help. By the way, math is very much about finding clever ways to count the cheerios. Here are some problems to start you off.

Try counting them by 2's, 3's, 4's... Try making groups of 3, then of 3 (3's), then of 3 (3 (3's))... this is called "counting in base 3." Then try counting in groups of 10, then 10 (10's), then 10 (10 (10's))...this is normal counting, or "counting in base 10."

Make a multiplication table up to at least 14*14. Try to figure out rules which allow you to fill it out quickly. Now make a multiplication table, but imagine you live on a clock with only the numbers 0 through 5 (and if you go past 5 you wrap around again). What will this table look like?

Try to make a picture which allows you to easily compare the size of 1/3 of a cake to 1/5 of a cake (hint: make the cake a square, cut it into 3 equal stripes and 5 equal stripes the other way). How many little pieces are there? How much of the cake is that little piece?

If I could tell you one thing to study that would make so many things easier it would be the following:

1) Memorize your addition facts (being able to add together any two numbers from 0 to 10 together)

2) Then memorize your "times tables", with multiplying any two numbers from 0 to 10 together.

If you can do any addition or multiplication problem like these in under two seconds (can you go through all the flash cards, getting 80% right, in 3 minutes, timed?) you will be making math easier for yourself.

This one thing holds back more basic math students than any other thing.

I don't live in US and don't know much about the education system there. But there is no harm in trying. Who know's you might get what you want.
