You say that you have changed network cards then it works fine -
This points to a problem with the network card - if that's what you mean
Some good answers from above - do this
What are you pinging you own IP or external IP
Try pinging you own ip address and the default gateway
also 127.0.0.1 - to check your winsock
The main causes are firewall problems
BUT - repeating myself - if you have changed your network card and then suddenly it works - THE network card that you have replaced is obviously faulty

512MB is high-quality for XP. greater would be greater useful besides the undeniable fact that it might possibly no longer decelerate that lots with basically 512MB. It appears like some thing else is going on. First, you have no longer reported if this could be a working laptop or computing gadget or laptop. If this could be a pc, examine the ability scheme settings and see if changing it from "transportable/laptop" to "domicile/workplace table" will improve the cost. you're able to try this by utilising beginning the administration Panel, beginning ability concepts, and seem on the chosen ability scheme under the ability Scheme tab. 2d, you probably did no longer point out if it became ever rapid till now. If it has those days slowed down, confirm to run an entire device test utilising an as much as date antivirus. you additionally can run an information superhighway test, including domicile call from style Micro (there are plenty others to boot). Then, acquire and run the two Spybot seek & injury and advert-conscious. i've got correct all 3 under. third, run the Disk Cleanup application. i does no longer permit it compress something in yourchronic, although. Fourth, run Disk Defragmenter. 5th, utilising the device tray icon residences, turn off any concepts for classes to start on boot which you do no longer decide for. The greater of them that initiate on boot, the slower your computing gadget will respond. 6th, you basically could improve your memory. it is the main inexpensive thank you to improve your computing gadget's overall performance. stable success!

Does the gateway have a connection to the internet?
Is your DNS setup correctly? You can figure this out by trying to ping www.yahoo.com. Or try it's hard coded IP address which is 209.131.36.158. If you can ping the address but not the domain name, then it's a DNS problem.
You should have been given 2 DNS servers by your ISP that you may need to hard code into your TCP/IP properties for your network adapter.

there are multiple causes for that ,
broken browser files, firewalls etc , hard to point out !!
:D
There is one small trick to check if it is really down , boot to Safe Mode with Networking while windows XP boots up ( this won;t work wid most DSL cable modems and a few router configs ) but still worth a try.
There are number of IP addresses that may not wrk and connect to the internet one of them being 169.258.x.x
Autonet config of windows bu default the ideal Ip's if connected to a router would be in the 192.x.x.x range or if directly to the router in the 10.x.x.x
Once u get there try browsing , it can pin point the cause of external defect rather than the internet.

Which gateway are you pinging? The one in your local network (like your firewall or router) or one that belongs to your ISP?
In either case, they are more 'local' to you than anything else on the Internet, so pinging them is no indication that you have Internet access.
Try pinging something else on the Internet like www.yahoo.com and see if you can reach it.
If you can ping it but cant browse to it, that would suggest that your DNS settings are not correctly configured. In that case you should speak to your ISP to determine what they are where you should enter them.
