On a windows XP Professional SP2 computer. So that my laptop is the computer that controls the XP Professional Computer.
Things to consider when answering:
1. I don't want to have to make it where I have to be at both the laptop and the xp pro computer at the same time so that I can first allow it to see whats happening on the computer then once again say yes to a prompt that pops up when I select take over.
2.give me a good answer and I give you 10 points.

I hope this is good enough to snatch that 10 point:
1. open your System Properties, select Remote Desktop
2. You must first connect both Computer (using LAN is easier), make sure your computer name(s) are easy to remember.
On your PC:
3. check the both "Allow......"
4. Click Select Remote User button
5. Click Add
6. Click Advanced.
7. Click on Locations button, then select your Laptop's name
8. Click on Find Now
9. Select the user(s) allowed to control your PC, then click OK
Additional Note:
You'll need to install "Terminal Services client" from your network component click here to download the neccessary file(s) http://rds.yahoo.com/_ylt=A0geussb3N5EGQkBPQ1XNyoA;_ylu=X3oDMTB2dnY0Nm1iBGNvbG8DZQRsA1dTMQRwb3MDMgRzZWMDc3IEdnRpZAM-/SIG=12jj2p3mq/EXP=1155542427/**http%3a//www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/pro/downloads/rdclientdl.asp
To connect as remote user, open Remote Desktop Connection from Start | Program Files / All Programs | Accessories Communications | | Remote desktop connection. Then log into your computer.
I've never tried this before, but that's the theory... so let me know the resul :D

If your laptop doesn't have XP pro, then you'll need to download the remote desktop client from Microsoft's download site for free. On your XP pro computer, you need to right click on my computer, goto the remote tab, and check "Allow users to connect remotely to this computer", and select the users.
You will then be able to connect to your XP Pro computer through a network. However when you login, it will log off your XP Pro login. Only a single login is supported for XP Pro OS.

On the PC, right-click My Computer,
click Properties,
and then click the Remote tab.
Turn on Remote Desktop by selecting the check box
"Allow users to remotely connect to this computer".
Designate users by clicking the "Select Remote Users" button.
Then, from the laptop, you can run remote desktop, enter the hostname or IP address of the PC, and (provided you have permissions sorted out) you should have access.

First of all the systems need to be networked. If they are you can download a program called realvnc. Install it on both systems and the system you want to control must have the vnc server running. The system you want to control it with will need to have the listener running. You will need to find the ip address of the computer you want to control, you can do this by putting your cursor on the icon on the taskbar of the system you are controlling. Then its a matter of opening the listener and putting in the proper ip. I use it to control all the systems on my lan, works great! It is also free.
