I have been on a "sabbatical" since April and have not been working. I am now about out of money and need to find a job. Tonight I went with my best friend to another friend's restaurant for his birthday. The friend who owns the resturaunt implied that he would be willing to hire me. I think it would be fun to work there, but my background is in retail. I'm also unsure about how good of an idea it is to work for a friend. Should I call him tommorrow and ask if he was serious about his offer?

I should mention that I am definately not desperate for a job. I should be able to get one early next week regardless.

A job is a job, you have to set a boundry of freindship and work but it could work to your favour. It can't hurt to talk to him about it.

If you really are in desperate need for quick money then accept his proposal. Its not every day where you're offered a job on a silver platter. Just working for a while is better than searching for a job for weeks without a job. While working there you can also try seeking a retail job that you're more eperienced in.

I would not recommend working for a friend unless you don't mind risking the friendship. I have witnessed several examples of friendships deteriorating rapidly because of an inability to keep business and friendly roles separate. Imagine if you are late to work, and this leaves your friend in a bind. Then a couple nights later, you go out to the bar together and your friend decides to stick you with the bill because you were late to work. And then imagine it only gets worse from there....

No, I don't think you should do it. Whenever friends or husband-and-wives work together, it always ends in a disaster. I think you should keep looking for a great retail job. It's always better not to mix work and play! =)

I accepted a job from a friend once. It was kind of embarrasing when it didn't work out. Make sure you are both clear about what's expected of you and what you'll be doing.

If it was a dire emergency maybe but, know this, you can't work for your friends. They will no longer be your Friends they will become your BOSS. Is your friendship worth it? I'd TAKE IF AS A LAST RESORT, BUT FIND SOMETHING ELSE AS SOON AS POSSIBLE!
