If we are all taught to write the alphabet the same way in school, why does our handwriting look different?

it is a genetic thing, many of the males in my family print instead of using cursive writing, and our handwriting all looks simular, even though some are left handed. while many of the the females use cursive writing and their handwriting also looks simular.
