NFL: I would say Cowboys/Redskins.
followed by Raiders/Cheifs and Bears/Packers

Colts/Patriots is a rivalry of recent years, because both teams have been good at the same time, but they don't have a history of a rivalry in the way the Cowboys/Redskins, Raiders/Cheifs or Bears/Packers.

College: Some great answers posted: I always think of Ohio State/Michigan first, but there's always Oklahoma/Texas, or Oklahoma/Nebraska.

Also in college: Army/Navy; Florida/Florida State; Florida/Georgia and Florida/Tennessee (I think the Gators are Florida State's main rival, along with Miami...I don't think the Seminoles have a major rival outside the state of Florida).

USC/Notre Dame is another rivalry with great tradition on both sides. And last year's game (won by USC) was one of the all time great regular season games in college football history!

One thing about rivalries: It should involve players, fans and coaches... rivalries should have at least a 20 or 30 year track record....and players, fans, and coaches of a team should HATE every player, fan and coach of the rival team... and, MOST IMPORTANTLY, they need to teach this hatred to their kids, so that the kids grow up to hate the same teams!! The rivalries listed above do it right!!

Bears vs Packers is always a popular game...Can't forget Dallas vs Washington......but lately...I've been more interested in the less "popular" rivalry of Indy vs New England.

My personal rivalry is my Panthers and the Falcons....I can't wait to see Peppers lay a hit on Vick....that's like bliss for me....
