i may build a computer in the near future. i dont want to pay too much cuz im not entirely too rich. but i want a pretty good machine. i dont care about having the best but i do want a large hard drive, over 2.5 GHz processor, whatever you think the best video card is and plenty of RAM. i have had computers freeze up in the past cuz i put stuff on it that the computer couldnt handle and i dont want that. i wont be hooking this up to the internet but i do want it to last. it should be comparable to an alienware but cheaper. if possible list how much the part is and where i would get it. thanks a billion.

u say u dont wanna spend much and then u say u want all these??? i can give u the price and maybe the place but u forgot tosay where u are... any way
u can go for a amd athlon 3000 xp+ 64 bit(939 pin) and a asus A8NVM MX motherboard... that would take care of ur processing and graphics card issue... the board has a onboard nvidia geforce 61XX graphcs card with 256 mb memory... make sure u put in atleast 1GB of ram to get decent performance....... u can go for a 160 GB HDD or may be two 120 GB HDD.. the second option is better as u would have a redundancy in case of an HDD crash... in case u are planning to keep the machine on for long time (read days) then u betted get a cabinet with atleast 2 chassis fans... this config would probably suit ur budget...

The last 2 computers i have had i built myself. First, if you dont have any software (windows or other operating system is the biggy) then it might be cheaper to buy a pre-built that includes them. But either way i got all my stuff from Tiger Direct. (tigerdirect.com) The system i have now is an Intel Celeron 3.07 ghz. I have 1.75 gigs of ram. The ram is about 100 bucks per gig. the motherboard and prossesser came together and cost about 200, i thnk. heatsink and fan for the prossessor is about 20. all in all my total order was 450. I used my exsisting 200 gig harddrive (usually less than 100 bucks at Best Buy) and my AGP Video Card(bought awile ago from Tiger at a measly 30 dollars) Cases, if you dont want to use one you already have, range from 20 to 100+. all i can say is front panel connections for USB and Audio are borderline nessessary. Hope this helps. If you have any more questions, feel free to e-mail me.
