Seems to be alot of Ford talk on a Honda question. If you stop and actually look at the two cars you are attempting to compare (mustang vs. civic) you'll notice one small displacement disparity. A v8 against an in-line4! I'll tell you what, I'll raise you two cylinders and put the Acura (Honda) NSX v6 up against your Ford mustang v8 any day!
Back to the subject....try looking at a few magazine articles from Import Tuner or Honda Tuning and decide what kind of racer you want (drag, street, autocross, etc) and see what other people are doing to their cars. This will give you an idea of what is possible with your Civic.
Good Luck!

if youre talking a literal racecar, then the best affordable way to go about it is drop a B16A into it and put a nice turbo setup on it (keeping boost fairly low to prevent lag problems). then gut the inside, get a nice racing seat with a 5point, get some racing coilovers, and throw a nice custom rollcage in there.

to make a street racing car, the best way is to sell it and buy a performance car. A 5.0 mustang can be had for cheaper and have far more potential. For 10 well spent grand, you can have a 5.0 running 10 second quarters.

Or buy an LS1 fbody. So much better to start with the motor of god (LS series SBC), than it is to start with a worthless performance motor like whats been put in the civic (dotn bother flaming me for this, youre wrong. a 1.6 liter will never be an ideal racing engine compared to a 5.7 liter engine that weighs only a bit more).

that is way to vague to answer accurately. there are way to many types of races and the way you would build up your car depends on the type of race you want to compete in. if you just mean to make your civic into a street car then you would have to decide how much money you want to put into it. do you really want the performance or are you just going for the look. if you want it to go faster without putting a lot of money into it get a cold air intake to start with. find you a good performance shop dealing with imports. they will be able to start you in the right direction.

Depents how much u willing to spent. My homie got a honda civic with DC headers, buddy club body kits and seats, Carbon fiber hood, GreDDy turbo kit, and other performance parts. If you want, i can list the things u could buy if you give me your price range.
