Ronaldinho has topped the list for the highest paid footballers. He earned an annual revenue of 23 million euros - which added up the salaries, bonuses, sponsorship deals and other sources of income.
But, after the WC, Frank Lampard is soon to be the highest paid footballer on the planet- 140,000 pounds a week.

Ronaldinho enjoyed an annual revenue of 23 million euros ($28.47 million), said France Football, which added up the salaries, bonuses, sponsorship deals and other sources of income for each player.
Beckham follows with a total of 18 million, down from 25 million the previous year. Brazil and Real Madrid forward Ronaldo is in third place, having pocketed 17.4 million euros while England and Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney is fourth in the list with an income of 16.1 million euros.

According to the France Football article (April 2006), it is, as stated Ronaldhino, then Beckham, Ronaldo and Rooney.
Beats the hell out of me as to why Wayne Rooney is rated so highly, especially after his dummy spitting episodes at the World Cup finals. He just proved to me that it is a very fine line between highly paid player and terraces hoodlum, in his case.
Obviously money does not guarantee intellegence. Perhaps he should cross over to Rugby League where his thuggish talents can be better exploited.
