yes, excellent choice. pine is bad for them and can cause breathing & skin problems. aspen will be much better! the above response is wrong-aspen IS NOT bad for them. also the response that pine & cedar r fine is wrong. carefresh, aspen, & corncob should be used alone or in a combo.

Pine or aspen shaving are fine for hamster.
Leave a little of the old bedding in the cage when you clean out so that he does not think he has to scent mark it all as his territory. Please do not use fuffy bedding as it can cause problems if it gets wrapped around limbs. the bedding becomes a cord which constrict the limb and stops blod flow causing pain and the loss og the limb.
Shredded paper is much safer and can also be used a a flooring material. Buy an office shredder and use all your junk mail it works out cheaper in the end.

Aspen is a much preffered bedding to Pine. Pine and Cedar have oils that are very harmful to rats, hammies and mice (plus more small animals).
Your hammy should be fine with the change, as long as he's not allergic to Aspen.... which is rare.
You're taking a good step for him :)

Where is the pine bedding is made?
Aspen is also dangerous!
I better advise you not to change the brand coz aspen is dangerous and your hammies might die because of it!
The pine bedding i hope it's from Holland or maybe Europe.

Yes aspen is actually healthier for them than pine. But a paper based product is better. It helps keeps the smell down. I use Ultra Care Fresh for my gerbils and it works great.

bedding is kinda like food. change it a little at once, then when you think your pet is ok with it, change it all. for the first time, add the original kind and cover the top with the new kind. then the second week deduct the amount of the original one and add more of the new kind. the last time you change it, it's probably safe to add all of the new kind

you should only use cottony or wooly bedding for hamsters as anything sharpe can cause there mouth pouches to get damaged and infections can set in.

I think it should be fine, but you should switch to the recycled bedding. It's cottony. It's much better for their little hamstery lungs.
