Not even remotely...
Cracks me up when someone says "The Catholic Church made it more serious than it is."
No. Wrong. It isn't the Christians booking DVC Tours to Europe and trying to map out all the clues for themselves, and buying the illustrated editions, and taking them to church to ask about all of the horsecrap within. It's the fans who are taking it seriously, forcing the church to take the time to answer all of the inanities Dan put in there.
Get it straight.

Here I am repeating the answer I always give for same question.
It is the one I sent to some TV Channels and News Papers:
The world is seriously concerned and the Christian World (especially the Roman Catholic Church) is hurt through a book of an individual that contains his own manipulations. That too on a subject of more than two thousand years old with no adequate evidence for the views he has.
Dan Brown is nothing but a cunning writer where he found a safe base to start his game. The base from where he started his book is already well known to the whole world and so he had no doubt that his book would a best seller. His mind is nothing better than that of a crazy street boy who tries to spoil or tarnish a sculpture or a statue or a painting that was admired by rest of the world. He succeeded in doing it. The act can be compared with that of the Talibans who destroyed the Budha’s statue. Here, I am not comparing their aims.
Now to the Christian world and the Roman Catholic Church I have a question. If your God is powerful, why don’t you leave the matter to Him to handle? Is not your almighty God powerful enough to handle a Dan Brown, if his views are against Him?
Dan Brown, Salman Rushdie, Kazantzakkis etc.are all such writers who had another indirect aim in their minds that fame is easy when they try to tarnish a famous matter. Keeping aside their literary talents there is nothing worth admiring. But they succeeded and the media and whole world are being fooled. Moreover, when one religion is insulted the rest rejoice. This is another key point of their success.

Why don't you ask is, for example, the "Earthsea", by Ursula K. Le Guin, true? Or the story about Superman?
The Da Vinci Code is fiction; well written fiction with the interesting plot. Catholic church made a mistake by giving it more importance then it should have. They did a huge favor to D. Brown.

There are things we have called novels that are full of stories like The Da Vinci Code, Pride and Prejudice, The Bible...
God was telling me that everything is true and everything is false but then he started muttering about kids and their baggy pants, then turned on Dr Dre and told me not to take anything too seriously

Da Vinci Code is completely made up.
The premise about Mary Magdalene is not true
the Premise about the Opus Dei is not true
The premise about he Roslyn Chapel is not true
That idea of the holy grail being a person and not an object is not true.
Dan Browne made it all up, its just a good novel.

I was listening to the radio the other day and the host was trying to convince everyone that "The Da Vinci code" was not true.
Well Duh it is a work of fiction! If it were true it would be non-fiction.
I feel like giving a speech about why "Clifford the Big Red Dog" isn't real.
---Look guys it is impossible for a dog to be taller than a house because they just can't be that tall. Don't beleive the lies that the evil creator of Clifford is trying to convince you of!

Alot of it is crap, but some of it is true, like the star thing that is made from both the symbol of a man and woman that the Catholic church made a symbol of the devil because it symbolized female equality. As to whether Jesus was married or not, I think it's debatable because most rabbis are suppose to get married, but Jesus might have died before he got the chance. And Mary Magdallene, or however you spell her name, is not a prostitute, I think the Bible said something about sinner, but we're all born sinners. Either way, being married isn't a sin, and Jesus was human, he bled at the cross, so I wouldn't worry about it. I know Opus Dei isn't as serious as the movie portrayed, they do torture themselves a bit, but not to the point of bleeding, and I don't think they keep many secrets, it's just a way some people choose to be closer to God. I think we should just think of Jesus as the man who taught people that being good is important, whether he was married or not, he was still an amazing man.

Nothing true.
It is just a novel written by a great human brain. It is a good
criminal story and mixed up with science fiction!
I say "FICTION" — this means: it could be,
it could happen... if and if, too many "ifs" I know...
... the albino-monk Silas (in the book !!!) is really
frightening... in the movie he's just ridiculous...

the novel, itself, is not a narrative of true events, though it purports to be. some of the ideas tossed around, within it, are plausible, and i can't help but think one or two of 'em have a grain of truth in 'em. if you throw that much sh*t at the wall, some of it is going to stick.
