Do NOT get divorced. Most people will tell you to leave him. But there is another option. Stay married, yet get the authorities involved. You can still love and honor him while he is locked up, and you can keep your children protected as well. Then, when he comes out and is ready to be a good hubby and daddy, he will have a happy wife to come home to, one who remembers his bad days but is joyful about his new good ones. He will also have had a cheerleader on his side while locked up, and that can mean so much to him. "Once an abuser, always an abuser" is not true. I've seen men change. It CAN be done.

Many blessings!

Call the authorities now and get as far away from him as possible! If you have children, your first priority is to protect them.

And to MomWtrmn: Get real! Just because that's your reality doesn't mean it's everyone else's. How will you know he's going to be a "good hubby or daddy" when he gets out of jail? There have been instances where the man came back and got revenge on his family for putting him there. I don't believe everyone can be reformed. Only the ones who choose to be. So the saying "once an abuser, always an abuser" can be true in some cases. In the above scenario, it's always better to err on the safe side.

My advice: LEAVE and report him to the authorities NOW! I wish you good luck.

I think just by your asking what to do, you know what to do. The right thing is to protect you and your children. You do not deserve the abuse. Abuse is a cycle that can't be broken without professional help. Get a restraining order before you end up being on the cover of the local paper listed as missing or dead. God does not want this life for you. There is hope and happiness for you.
