Ritchie Valens sang two similar songs - "Stay Beside Me" and "We Belong Together" - neither of which have "you belong to me" in the lyrics. I found the song called "You Belong to Me" that goes like this, "see the pyramids along the Nile, watch the sunrise on a tropic isle; just remember, darling, all the while; you belong to me". Several artists - Jo Stafford (female) was first in 1952; then in 1962, sung by The Duprees (male group).
Lyrics and/or links follow for all three.
STAY BESIDE ME
Stay beside me, here beside me
Stay beside me day after day
When I'm feeling blue, let me look at you
Oh my darling, please won't you say
You'll stay beside me, help & guide me
Never never leave me alone
Trust & love me, be proud of me
Let me keep your heart for my own
With your love, you make me strong
Come to me where you belong
Stay beside me, close beside me
You must know it's you I adore
You were meant for me, you will always be
My true love forever more
WE BELONG TOGETHER
You're mine and we belong together
Yes, we belong together,for eternity
You're mine, your lips belong to me
Yes, they belong to only me,for eternity
You're mine, my baby and you'll always be
I swear by everything I own
You'll always,always be mine
You're mine, and we belong together
Yes, we belong together, for eternity

You Belong To Me...Duprees (50's). Big doo-wop hit for them, but originally done by a female in the early 50's. Her name is Jo Stafford. The Duprees version is the best one. Download it from Limewire. I do believe amazon.com has it on a compilation also.

That song was released around 46 years ago and was sung by the Duprees.

If it was released in 1952 (or there abouts), it could have been by Jo Stafford.
