My wife is a 911 operator. She is required by law to ask certain questions pertaining to the emergency you are reporting. They must be asked and it is your duty to answer what you can. 911 IS for emergencies only! You wouldn't believe the people who call and what they are calling about on an emergency phone line. This ties up the line for someone who might not be breathing or maybe laying in the middle of the road from an accident. 911 for cell phones, though not perfect, is a lifesaver. Re-routing the calls at times can be a fright and it DOES frustrate the 911 operator who is doing his or her best to get help to the victim right away. One thing I will never understand and my wife deserves an award for her patience, is the rudeness of the callers. They are your lifeline for help and safety!

Yes, once when I was working, someone found a woman passed out in the bathroom. She was breathing, but no one could wake her up. They told me to call 911. I kinda freaked out. They wanted to know her age, how long she'd been passed out, etc. I didn't know. I felt like saying don't ask so many questions, just get here.

They responded with 2 policemen, an ambulance, a first responder, and a firetruck. I thought that was all going a little overboard. But, they took her to the hospital and she hadn't been eating and was dehydrated. She ended up being fine. But, it was a little scary at the time.

I called 911 few times when i saw drunk drivers and reported them. I don't know if they were caught or not.

My husband called 911 on his cell phone once when a burn-pile fire he was watching burned too high and caught the woods on fire. We live near the Ohio River, on the Indiana side, but the closest cell tower was in Ohio, and it took like ten minutes for the Ohio 911 to transfer our call to the local authorities. The fire department did finally show up, though.

I did once by accident. I was trying to call my friend but it's really hard to dial a phone when you don't have proper fingers. My flipper slipped on the buttons and I accidently hit the speed dial button for 911.

Many times. I was a counselor for homeless veterans, and other veterans, and if a Vet said to me that he was going to kill or harm himself or others, then a call to 911 would find out just how serious he really was, after all.

Yes, I have called a couple of times.
One time I was driving to work at 6 am and there was a motorcycle lying in the middle of the road.
When I was actually attacked by someone I could not call because he broke my phone, so it does not always work.

Yes, was working at a hotel when a guy came in bleeding from the mouth and screaming. He had just picked a fight with about eight guys and got whipped like a girl. (We found teeth in the parking lot the next day.) The police came and arrested the toothless guy. No more trouble.
