You may get an unpaid item strike and/or negative feedback.

What is best to do is write the seller and say that you've changed your mind. Many sellers will be grateful that you let them know, so they don't have to keep sending you emails and invoices.

You can apologize and suggest that they offer the item to the next-highest bidder. This will save the seller a lot of hassle and may prevent an unpaid item strike and negative feedback.

Just don't do it anymore. You can always retract/cancel a bid you've made that you wish you hadn't, while the auction is still open.

You will rceive negative feedbacks and you will be reported to eBay. And no one will buy from you or even want to sell to you in the future.
