depends...how much food do you give? i have a betta too and danny also had a big stomach...very big..but thats cos i fed him too much..if u use pellets (if u use flakes..i suggest you discontinue them cos' they cause lots of bacteria becuase if the fish doesnt eat the whole thing..the flake settles down in the tank and starts to "rot" and spread the bacteria..seriously.my fish died because of those flake bacterias...pellets are much safer and easier) use only 3 in the morning and 3 at night and STICK TO IT..dont overgive...cos u can kill him ..they eat everything. trust me he wont die of hunger. they can live without food for at least 4 days...and also..its also healthy not to give food for one day (per week) so that the stomach cleans itself...also..maybe change water???? see..if he has any markings/rash/white spots/raised spots on his fins etc...i suggest you dont feed him for 2 days...and then start giving 2 in the morning and 2 at night...go like that for 2 more days and see if the stomach is less..then go back to the routine (3 in the morning..3 at night).

BY THE WAY...pretty much all of the betta fish at pet stores are MALE. I ASKED the pro..apparently..female bettas are only used for breeding purposes. so they are not sold unless you request it. therefore there is 98% that you betta is male..he also said that their fish is relationship is based on the idea that a female betta is the "power figure" and the centre so everyone tries to mate with her. yeah..so it also goes as son betta + mother betta...gross but thats what i've learned.

your fish might also suffer from constipation..check to see if he is going to the washroom or not..there has to be a mess left on the bottom of the tank. if its true. dont give food for 2days and go to the pet store for meds....

BY THE WAY. vets cannot cure fish. they simply dont know much about it yet...go to a petstore and find some hardcore fish junkie...they usually know a lot more than a vet since they take care of the fish in a daily basis. find someone mature.

A male betta and a female betta are easy to sex. A male betta has longer fins then the female. So if it is VERY colorfull and has long, flowing fins, it is a male betta. The round belly could be caused by a lot of things, from a full belly(from over feeding), to an infection. You shoud go to a good pet or fish store and ask for advuce, search the web too:).

Your betta would desire to be waiting to stay to tell the tale with one finished tank cleansing each and every week. Betta are frequently distinctly hardy fish. Their organic ecosystem is in rice fields and airborne dirt and dirt puddles. so as that additionally they do no longer do nicely with too lots easy, and that they truthfully should not be in to any extent further than ten gallons of water. that's additionally why they gain this nicely in tiny tanks. of direction filtration is often solid, yet no longer consistently an absolute necessity. the main suitable all around accepted ingredient I even have got here upon for a betta with a secret situation is a dose of methaline blue. yet, it basically sounds to me like he's under pressure somewhat. A betta has the aptitude to stay weeks and each from time to time even months without nutrition. A betta is likewise of the anabantoid kin. this would be a kin of fish referred to as labyrinth fish, because of the fact they have an organ,(labyrinth organ), that helps them to breath on the exterior if mandatory. that's why extra air is physically powerful yet no longer a necessity. earlier you do all that stuff stated in that different answer...start up out with attempting hassle-free ideas so which you do no longer stress the undesirable ingredient out. there's a solid possibility he will at last basically consume. attempt to maintain him able with low interest and not too lots easy for a whilst.

yes, it has dropsy. dropsy is not a disease, its a symtom of a disease. the cause of dropsy is unsure but it might be stress(from dirty water etc), virus or kidney failure. if the belly is big, it might be two late for medication but you can always try(dropsy medicine is for early stages and is horribly expensive). after a while the scales stick out like pinecones and the fish dies really really SLOWLY. i think its best to put it to sleep with clove oil.

if its not been in with any other fish lately...id say yes since Bettas dont get pregnant spontaneously and its pretty tough to breed those type of fish anyways.

It might be just eating to much. Mine did that cuz i fed him to much. On the other hand, if you wake up one morning, and have alot of little bettas floating around, then you know it is a girl....GL

If his fins are long...he is a male. And first...do you feed him alot? This could be....otherwise he could be sick. More than most likely he is just a pig
