it pulls more ccas (cold cranking amps) from the battery, so it puts more strain on the battery, it could be enough hp robbing to not allow the car to start under certain cituations, but then again, so could anything else that adds extra strain on startup.

NO The AC has nothing to do with the starter.

no problem, the a/c comp does not start till after the engine is running

i dont believe so, i do it all the time. it could put a little extra stress on the starter

no it doen't hurt it,but it does make the starter work harder with the a/cs clutch not free spooling
