My girlfriend likes to take two to three 10 mg tablets to "just relax" she dosen't sleep, just zones in front of the TV. She is stressed out a lot from her job, etc.

that's definitely too much, and for the wrong reason. ambien is prescribed specifically for people with difficulty falling asleep/staying asleep.
unfortunately, like so many drugs nowadays, it's used for all kinds of things- like "to relax". that is NOT the intended use and ANYONE using more than the prescribed dose for anything other than sleep apnea is considered to be an "abuser of the substance".
i could nearly guarantee that the dr. that prescribed that for her, said to take 1 pill every night/ or as needed. NOT 2-3. no matter the stress level, abusing any kind of pill is wrong, and also bad for your system. people who take that much ambien are likely to develop a dependency on the drug, which could lead to pretty serious problems.
i would confront your girlfriend about her reasons for taking the drug like she does. if she gets really defensive, then she knows it's not good for her. if she honestly had no idea, then ask her to simply monitor her usage of the drug more closely.

The other responses are true. It's understandable that your girlfriend is stressed out from her job and things and was given Ambien to sleep better. But it's not for that purpose. There are other medications for that purpose and she should just tell her doctor that she takes them more to relax than for actual sleep. I did the same thing and it will affect your sleeping cycles and then she'll have more problems at work and who needs that.

yikes! That is a lot of ambien!
A dangerous side effect of ambien is short term memory loss-and that sure won't help at work!

my mom takes ambien so much that it makes her act goofy and my sister can not stand it if she takes to much she even can not stand it if I take it but I only it take 1 a night my mother takes 2 or 3 at night and she is so out of it she tells me she will never do it again but she does she does not even remember taking it
