Okay so a friend of mine is 20 years old and he met this girl who is 15. I tell him not to mess with her but he insists its only innocent fun. If he goes out on dates with her, or potientally ends up being her boyfriend what kinda restrictions does he have to apply. Is kissing and cuddling and all that small stuff still considered as statutory rape? What kinda things is he allowed to do without having to deal with jail time or the law? I am concerned he is a dear friend to me, and he looks like he's falling for her.

In many states, statutory rape requires actual intercourse and usually the age is under 14. It's corrupting the morals of a minor your "friend" has to be careful of. That and the girl's father. You're "friend" clearly has no character and needs to "mess" with a child because girls his own age won't have anything to do with him.

Chose your "friends" more carefully...

Okay well... lots of people dont seem to think its a good idea... I'm from Canada so our laws might be different and people might be more laid back on the whole relationship thing here... But I'm 16 now... and last year I was dating a 20yr old when I was 15... It wasn't because he was sad n couldn't get a girl his own age, although he was a cheater and a manwhore... lol but I would never try to get an exbf in trouble for dating me cuz I was "too young" unless he actually tried to harm me (and I still prolly wouldnt do anything)... I told my parents he was 18 not 20 so they wouldnt freak, I eventually told them he was actually 20... they didnt really care... Especially since my bf before him was 22... I dont think any girl I know would try and get a guy in trouble for being too old for her and what the hell can a dad do... all she has to do is tell cops they never did anything or she only kissed him because he respected her and told her they had to wait till she was 18... it doesnt matter!

It depends on the state. In California, you can get married at ANY age. In Massachusetts you can marry at 12. It depends on the state, as to what is taboo or not. He is treading in that gray area. It's usuallly ok if a guy goes out with a girl that young if the PARENTS know about it and approve. Bill Wyman of the Rolling Stones dated a 13 year old girl until she turned 18 then he married her( lucky guy). Then there is Elvis. When Elvis Pressley(yes as in the King of ROCK AND ROLL) met Priscilla, she was 15 and he was like 18 or 19. Then there is Jerry Lee Lewis(married his 13 year old cousin). Then Jerry Seinfeld dated a 17 year old girl)
Again, you'd need to look at the state and what is said.

In state of California, if he was reported and investigation about it, he could face charges of stat rape. You don't have to have intercourse to be charged.

Her mother/father can also press charges of violation if he trespasser (restraining order). So, even if he isn't charged, the parents can make other ways for them two to not have anything to do with one another.

If he really likes her, he would wait a few more years and respect the situation at hand.

My step brother almost got charged but the mother drop the charges after discussing it with him and her daughter. They are still together 3 years later. However, it was a major issue and it woke up my step brother's eyes of how much his butt was on the line.

When I was 14, my 21 year old friend was charged and he didn't get out til I was 19. He will be 27 and it still haunts him because it goes on his record. Just recently he doesn't have to put it on his applications since it's been 5 years. Yet, before it was embarrassing and realized how that girl wasn't worth it.

Got to becareful messing with older men adults. Especially at the fact they shouldn't be looking at young girls. Grown men should be looking at grown female.

Hun, situations like this are where the term "jail bait" came from. If the girls parents aren't concerned about the issue, then he might be okay dating her. But he might want to think about if the relationship doesn't work, she might cry rape just for spite. And then the charges of statutory rape would apply.

It puts your friend in an awkward situation by being seen with a 15 yr old girl. People are going to assume that he is guilty, even if they never have sex. A 20 yr old just doesn't associate with a 15 yr old because the temptation is too much for him to handle. If he says he won't have sex, he's lying. He will try to get her to have sex. Whether he does or not, anyone who sees them will know that he is a predator. It's best for him to move on to someone more his age or risk going to jail. Good Luck

You should check the laws in your particular state. Every state has their own laws. They have different ages of consent too. In Arkansas, the legal age of consent is 16, unless they have changed it again, but pretty sure it's still 16. Look into it. Do some searches on yahoo and you should come across something. If you need help, tell what state you are in and I can see if I can find some laws.

he can get in serious trouble if they are just making out and not having sex. It is still indecency with a minor. Tell him to be very careful I can't say not too because he of course is an adult and my brother married a 15 year old when he was 25 and they started dating when she was 13. Weird I know but hey who am I too judge. Just tell him to be careful if he won't stop seeing her.

Its all against the law in most states......plenty of adults have been charged with fondling a minor.....so, he needs to quite dating jail bait! I knew a guy who at 19 was charged with statuatory rape, his girlfriend had already turned 18 when the parents got pissed and pressed charges.....even now that they are married with children he still has to register as a sex offender.
