GILCHRIST?even TATENDA TAIBU and KAMRAN AKMAL are better than him.he can't play on foreign lands,on turning pitches and even in own country against good bowlers(remember south Africa series last yr?).even Kamran guided Pakistan out of 39/6 against India early this yr on a dangerously swinging Karachi pitch!can Dhoni ever do that?NEVER.BET AN INFINITE DINARS.

It is too early to say that Dhoni is better than Gilchrist because Gilchrist has been a proven performer for Australia for so many years whereas Dhoni has just entered international cricket. So comparing Dhoni and Gilchrist would be foolish.
But Dhoni can be Gilchrist if he performs the way he is doing now.
Best of luck to him

Gilchrist has been playing for 10 years..and Dhoni just a year..he still has to work on his game..his inexperience showed up in the west indies tour..its a feast watching him hit sixes around like that but Gilchrist is better..Dhoni himself takes Gilchrist as his idol

No way, dhoni is a very good player, but u can hardly even mention him in the same breath as Gilchrist who is without a doubt, the best wicket keeper batsman of all time, Dhoni has also been thriving in his home country and who doesnt do that? he also hasnt been to Australia and played a series there against the best team in the world, its all well and good to be great in your own country, but everyone knows the hardest foreign tour is Australia, if dhoni can keep up his good play for i dunno, 10 years, then you might be able to mention him in the same breath as sangakkara and gilchrist, but until then, there is no way

Mahendra Singh Dhoni is great player but I have noticed that his keeping is sometimes sloppy. Gilchrist is an amazing keeper. Dhoni should work on that. Looking at the stats...Adam Gilchrist is definitely better..

C'mon man. U can't compare Dhoni to Gilchrist just yet. Gilchrist is a legend, the most destructive batsman for years. And his consistency is amazing. The greatness of the man lies in the fact that he has been opening the innings after keeping for 50 overs. What fitness!
He could be in the team just for his wicketkeeping or solely for his batting abilities. Don't forget he is not a keeper who bats well but he is a genuine opening batsmen. And he has proved his mettle in tests too.
Dhoni definitely has the talent and ability but its unfair(and too early) to compare him to Gilli.

You can't say so. It doesn't depend on the highest runs scored or so, but it depends on the consistency offered by a batsman. if dhoni performs well in the tri-series definitly he can come back and be better than gilchrist. dhoni scored just 95 off 5 against west indies in the recent odi serie' loss, averaging just 24.00 in the series, which will never b expectd by him.
so dhoni should avg above 40.00 per match to come bck n be better than the rest. Best of luck!

HaHa, Dhoni isnt close to Gilchrist. Gilchrist for one, can relatively play speedy bowling (in assessment to Dhoni). Gilchrist is the superb ever WK interior the historic previous of cricket, MS Dhoni is an overvalued piece of trash, who's decent in Asia, yet can bat everywhere else

Both are same. Gilchrist is little better than Dhoni in wicket keeping.

For the moment ,, if Dhoni continues like this ,, then even Gilchrist or Sangakkara can't match him in batting.
