No. I'm sick of places not being open just because it's Sunday. Sunday means nothing to me, and many other people, religious or not. The bank needs to be open every day, not just weekdays, and for full hours. I should be able to go to the mall on Sundays until proper closing time. I should be able to purchase a book at the book store past 6pm. I can't stand the fact that people close shop early on Sundays. It's inconvenient.

It depends on which part of the globe you are or which religion one practices. Where I am living and working at the moment, Friday is the day of rest and the day of obligation (for one's religion) and Sunday is considered as an ordinary working day. On Fridays, almost all shops and commercial establishments are closed until the early afternoon when the mid-day prayers are done. In other Christian denominations, e.g., the Seventh Day Adventists, the day of rest is Saturday where they go to church for almost half a day. So having Sunday as holiday doesn't have a universal appeal.

However, it would do people a lot of good to have one day of the week as a holiday, to rest, to be with the family, to be away from the commercial centers and businesses and to relax. That was the norm 20 or 30 years ago, where Sunday (in western/christian countries) was considered as a holiday and the whole family is together, would go to the church or some sort of service, visit family/relatives and don't think about work at all. The stress level was very low then and the family were much more intact and together.

A Holiday should be on any day it happens to fall on. We will celebrate it regardless if we have to go back to work the next morning.

no. its unfair and causes problems for non-christians. for example, i am jewish, and jews are not allowed to shop on saturday, and since stores are closed on sunday, when do they have time to shop? its ridiculous.

in a truly multicultural society this would not be an issue and stores would be open every day. good luck with that ever happening though.
