E the in E-commerce stands for electonic. This term sums up all transactions, usually financial, conducted via the internet.
Most e-commerce is conducted directly through company or private web-sites. That means that you can go to a website like www.Bestbuy.com and buy stuff from them without having to go to their stores.
If you want to conduct e-commerce, you need to be aware of three things.
First, what are you selling. Your product has to be legal, available to you (suplly), and has to be wanted or needed by people (demand).
Second, how are you going to get your money. Always get your money in advance. Once your customer gets your product, it will be very difficult for you to collect money from them. Pay Pal is a great tool that you can use. The customer will pay for your product with a credit card to PayPal and then PayPal will then send you a check, deposit in your bank account, or your personal account with them, minus a small service fee.
Lastely, how are you going to get your product to your customer? Once they pay, you have to get your product to them. You can use, the US postal service, UPS, or Fed Ex. You have to remember to check the rates of these package carriers first so that you can add that to the price of your product.
EBay is a great place to start because you don't have to have your own website and they have a lot of services that can help you, such as PayPal.
Good luck. It's a tough business to be in because of all of the competition that you will face. But if you have a good product and people want it, you can make a good living.
