In the latest Harry Potter book, who do you think is "R.B" who stole the horcrux?

I think it's Regulus Alphred Black, Sirius younger brother who was a Death Eater. Sirius had an uncle who was named Alphred. That would explain R .A. B. My main reason for this conclusion is because in OOTP, while cleaning out the Black household, a locket was found that none of the people in the house (at that time, Dumbledore wasn't there) could open. It could be the same locket that Harry and Dumbledore were looking for at the cave. I think they put it in the rubbish bag, I don't know what happened to it after that. If it is the horcrux, Harry's going to have a hard time finding it ;-) Oh, and JKR never said it wasn't him, she wouldn't answer the question.

Presuming Regulus is indeed R.A.B., he would have needed assistance to replace the Horcrux with the fake locket, after turning against Voldemort for any number of possible reasons. Readers have suggested that Regulus could have had the services of the Black family house-elf Kreacher. It is stated earlier in Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince that Regulus only survived a few days after Voldemort realised he had turned against him.
From what Rowling has shown readers, Kreacher is completely lacking in both the sanity and fortitude to be involved in such an arduous venture, let alone play a major role. Rowling has also given nothing to indicate that Regulus Black had the courage to drink the potion which has been seen, by its effects upon Albus Dumbledore, to cause such great pain. (Though proponents of the theory believe that it was drinking the potion that produced the state that Kreacher is now in.)

I've heard several posters say that R.A.B. may be Sirius's brother, Regalus Black.....I keep on saying that the answer has to be right under our noses, because everytime J.K. has ever done this, the answer to an identity is hidden in plain sight. Remember how in the 5th book, when the kids were cleaning out Grimwauld Place, and they all found a heavy locket that none of them could open? Whose to say that this locket isn't te horcrux, and that Regalus stole it and took it back to Grimwauld? Just a theory I've heard people throwing around, but I will say this: I can't wait for that last book!!

Genea_80, after reading your post I have to now go back and read Harry Potter 5 because I didn't know about the locket. Darn :)
In an interview at the leaky cauldron JKR said that Regulus Black would be an "ummm, a fine guess"

I'm not sure, but wouldn't it be awsome if it was a new character who becomes Harry's friend and ally against Voldemort? What if it
was someone who was friends with Dumbledore or Harry's parents? OK,that's just dumb. Forget it. Sirius Black's brother.

it's regalus black who took it and now it's somewhere in sirius' house because in the fith book it mentioned harry coming across a heavy locket while they were cleaning so it's either still there or kreature took it because he was stealing things throughout the house. yah i've had way too much time to think about these things...

regulus black,sirius black's bro. d one who became a death eater n was killed by 1 of them when he tried 2 back out fr it.d locket belongs to him n was in dumbledore's poss. when he died.i think it's a hocrux,if not it woulnd't b on dumbledore's person.

It is Regulus Black- Sirius Black's ( Harry's god-father) brother.
Some says he's a bad guy but mostly people describe him as a good guy. ^_^
