Yes, absolutely. You cannot imagine how beneficial it is until you have a grown daughter of your own. It is not only tradition, it shows so much respect and honor towards the parents. And it is impressive to your bride-to-be. I mean, you want their daughter, and you want them to be okay with that, right? DEFINITELY ask them, dude. It's a test of yourself that all men should go through. Not doing it is a sign of a coward. NO woman wants to marry a coward.

Not if you're over 18 (or whatever the age in your state is with regard to who can do what they want and with regard to how old you have to be to get married).

I'm not a big fan of asking for consent just to be nice or to be traditional either.

you don't need it, but it is a respectful thing to do. You want to be good with your in-laws right? I think they'll really appreciate it that you took the time to ask them first if it were okay, for you to marry their daughter. It also really shows respect towards your in-laws, and you'll know that when your getting married, it's okay and you don't have to worry about them(your in-laws) hating you because you didn't ask them first.
I think it'd also be good if you asked your OWN parents or guardian if it were okay for YOU to get married. i hope they give you some guidance and reasurance.
take care.

Getting engaged sets the pace for marriage.

The first time you present your bride to be, is of very importance.

You are a gentleman. You will have success!

if you trust their opinion, then it'd be nice to ask their consent. experience is important, typically older people have more. also, your parents know you well. i'd want my parents consent.

Nope. You only need their permission if you are actually getting married and you are under the legal age in your state.

You don't need to ask for permission.

It's highly encouraged to talk to them and get their permission first though.
