If cnet gives it a good rating I would trust it. BUT be sure you have the spelling 100% correct and get it ONLY from a trusted site.
See the rogue list of protection software at the end of my post. there are many sites that trick you bu changing the name slightly. Sometimes just a missing space can mean the difference between GOOD protection and SPYWARE infestation of a rogue program.
I use all of the following Free software with Windows XP SP2 and Internet Explorer with MSN toolbar and the pop-up blocker turned on and have never had a single problem with my computer sense Microsoft came out with SP2. I have used it and it did a decent job. It is just like any spyware removal program, it is bound to miss some, but it seemed to get most of what was on my system. It was safe for me.

Instead of spyware doctor use Lavasoft's "Ad aware" or use "Spybot Search &Destroy" . thease are free software and gives excellent performance
