I don't think so.
Rape is not about sex, it is about power. Making the person who was raped feel powerless and the rapist feel powerful. These people don't see themselves as wrong in the head. To them it is their victim that is in the wrong and needs to be "put in their place"

Short answer: No.
First of all, I completely disagree with a statement from an above poster that rape is not about power, and happens because someone is too drunk to notice that his partner is saying no or unconcious etc. If a man was too drunk to notice the reactions of his partner then he shouldn't be drinking or having sex in the first place. Also, sex is an act between two individuals (sometimes more if you're in to that kink ;-P), it is about giving and recieving pleasure where as rape consists of causing pain and forcing someone into sexual acts out of fear and against their will. I would really like to know where you got the statistics to base your facts that most rapists don't reoffend.
Rape is not about sex. It is a hate crime, rape is about power, and control and perversions that go far beyond sexual desires, and it occurs when the rapist has no regaurd or concern for his/her victim. Prostitution, like rape is illegal yet they both occur simultaneously in high numbers everyday. Many victims of rape are in fact prostitutes. Rapists rape to feel more powerful and more important, people seek prostitutes to have no strings attached sexual companionship. Since they are both sought after to satisfy different urges, legalizing prostitution would not solve or reduce the number of rapes.
As for psychiatric clinics becoming more available by exterminating the cost, I don't see this having much affect. Believe it or not but there are psychiatric clinics and hospitals that are free. The help is out there. The fact is that many rapists can not be rehabilitated no matter how intense or invasive the treatment. Also they would have to have the desire to change and seek help themselves, before they could even try to rehabilitate themselves. Like the saying goes, you can bring a horse to water but you can't make him drink.

It's interesting that all these people say rape is about "power and control" - well so is religion (having power over other people and controlling their thoughts (making them think like you do)) and war (obviously that's about power and control). Rape is not a good thing, but I don't think you can seriously say that all rapes occur for the same reason.
I think a lot of time rape is about a guy being ridiculously horny and a bit too drunk or stoned to pay any attention to the fact his victim is saying no, is resisting or is unconscious.
I think legalizing prostitution would greatly reduce the amount of men who are sexually frustrated (which is definitely the more common cause of rape) and I think increasing the amount of free psychiatric care available in our society would also reduce the number of men who go and rape people for the "power and control" feeling it gives them.
And I think if you look at the facts, most "rapists" only rape one time, they feel really bad about their hormones and sex drive overpowering their reason, they do what they must in order to not repeat that terrible action. Repeat rapists, or serial rapists are the ones who rape for the sense of power and control, and are probably sociopaths, but it would be very erroenous to lump every man who has been guilty of rape at least once (probably at least a third of the men in America) with sociopaths.
So the answer to the question is Yes.

No because prostitution is not related to rape, prostitutes choose to have sex and those who are raped are part of a power-play. Most of the time rape isn't even about sex, it's about making the rapist feel powerful over his victim. Rapists don't recognize that they have mental problems, so free clinics won't help either. The only thing to do is to incarcerate them for life, so that they can never harm another soul again. Suppossedly they can be "rehabilitated" but I don't think that's true most of the time, they will just go out again and rape more children or women, and why even take that chance?

I don't know if either will cut down on rapes. But legalizing prostitution will help cut a little on STDs because of the subsequent regulation of prostitution. As for free phychiatric clinics, it probably wouldn't do much for rapes or even crime in general. But for the poorest people it would be a good service to provide.

No, but putting the crazy bastards in jail will help! I feel that it should be a one time offense. If a man rapes a women or a child the SOB should be put in jail forever! No bail no second chance! one time is too much! That is what would reduce the numbers! but unfortunately the dam government and liberals want to play games!!!1 Lawyers and liberal Judges have caused this! Anyone capable of doing this once will do it again!!! There is no rebuilding for these people! Got it? Plus anyone that would commit these crimes should be put to death!

Who stated that? i replaced into lower than the impact that rape is more effective of a skill/domination ingredient, and really don't have something to do with the sex. Legalizing prostitution could besides the undeniable fact that make prostitution a safer occupation and honestly shrink crime hostile to prostitutes. it truly is ridiculous it truly is even unlawful, that's merely yet another get at the same time of the authorities telling you what you could and may't do inclusive of your man or woman body.

I doubt legalizing prostitution will stop rapes, not sure about psych clinics but medicare and state Medicaid will pay for that so it can be free to some.
The thing about rape is it is about power and not sex. The people who are rapist are doing it to show their dominance over someone else so paying for it isn't a solution to them.

Rape is about power and control, it's disgusting to think about but many people like the other's suffering; However, free mental healthcare for all is a good idea nevertheless.

Do you really believe a rapist would go to a prostitute & pay? I don't think so & as far as psych clinics..it's always the ones who are really sick that don't go...or they have noone to help them.
The majority of rapists are known to the victim.
