Assuming you are not using administrator account. Like any user name other than administrator...
do the following:
Restart your computer, Just before you see windows xp logo press F8 until you see boot menu. Scroll down to SAFE MODE and hit ENTER.
Computer will start in SAFE MODE. Log in as administrator. When you are logged in, you can click on START-SETTINGS-CONTROL PANEL Then double click on USERS...
From there, you can change your user password or remove password.

Click on the hint button to find get a hint to what teh password is. If you can not figure it out, then boot the computer in safe mode with F8 and log in as Administrator. You will be able to change user accounts with that.

I sincerely hope you weren't using the Administrator account. If you were, you would need to wipe your entire hard drive and reinstall Windows. If not, however, you can log on as the Administrator and either change the password to your other account from there or create a new account.

Safe mode....password recovery works only in XP HOME edn.
If its XP Pro. you are reqd to reformat !
Steps for password recovery can be found on support.microsoft.com......using keywords" password , xp"

Restart your machine. press the F8 key as soon as it starts back up.
Choose safemode
There should be an administor account.
Once in goto control panel-user accounts and change your password.
