hey im a newbie to the whole electric guitar thing and does anybody know what it means when guitar tab has Am7? like A obviously but is it major or minor and what does the 7 stand for? cheers.

An A7 chord is (tab):

Am7 means A minor with an added seventh note. Start with A (being one) C is the minor third, E is the fifth and G is the seventh. So basically it's four different notes.

It's A minor 7. It is played just like a regular A minor with the little finger on the last string 2nd fret. Go to google search and put in that chord and you will see how to play it correctly.

Damn, I don't know...I've been playing for 31 years and I know the chord, I have no clue what it means! I just play it loud most of the time but I never took the time to figure that out!!!
