I know this one, cause I use to do them :-)
You will have either 3 or 6 electrodes taped to your head, (depending on the type of machine they have) close to your nose, and your eyes..then you will have EKG electrodes stuck onto your chest to monitor your heart. If you have trouble falling asleep, you may be given a mild sedative, and then you will just sleep. Sounds like they may be testing you for sleep apnea, which is when you stop breathing when you are asleep..The test is painless, and simple...don't sweat it..

You go to the clinic are hospital and thy put like 100 wires on you head , chest, back, arms, legs and back then put you in a bed and put a mask that covers you noise only and tell you to sleep on your back, then thy turn the lights out and you go to sleep about 6 hours latter thy come in unhook you from all the wires and send you home. There is nothing at all that hurts but the stuff thy us to put to wirer on with is a thick past and it gets all in your hair and is so nasty and with al that stuff stuck on you it is really hard to sleep especially if you don't sleep on your back all the time any way co use you have to for the test the machine thy put you on it called a c-pap machine. it is pretty uncomfortable at first but once you have to live with one are you Will love it it takes a long time to start liking it but it is better than stop breathing in your sleep.

You go to a lab, ussually in a hospital, they put you in a room set up like a motel, strap a few wires to you, and you sleep. While you are sleeping, they measure brain waves, breathing rate, REM sleep, ect. Most of the time now a days it is to see if you have sleep apnea.

I just got one done 3 months ago. They look for a variety of sleep disorders, mine was sleep Apnea, there are many others. I got an air machine & a mask that i sleep with & now I sleep better. (I love it; it's called a CPAP) Lack of sleep can affect ur health in many ways, weight gain, heart disease, & many more. Just go & fall asleep, & about 1-2 wks. later you'll have your diagnosis.

You go to a sleep lab. There, you go to sleep "wired up", with various monitors attached to you to measure brain activity, pulse rate, blood oxygenation, etc. Technicians monitor you throughout the night.
