You have not specified what kind of places you want to visit, so it is a bit difficult to pinpoint a particular place for you. However, I list below some sites from where you can choose places of your liking:

www.indiatraveltours.com/places.htm

Generally in northern parts you find more historic places than in southern India.

If you want to visit scenic places, you must visit "Kerala". It is in the 50 places choosen by an UN agency (I don't know the name) that are MUST to be seen in the world.

For Hill stations and places like that Himachal Pradesh is a good one to go for, Shimla, Kufri, Kulu Manali etc. form parts of this beautiful place.

Have a good journey! Enjoy!!

Depends on you . Some people like historical places to visit. Then it is Delhi, Rajsthan, Agra (Taj Mahal and Fatehpur Seekari),.........etc.

For natural beauties , Himalayas are great. Himanchal, Kashmir, Uttaranchal.... here can go for skiing too.

If you like to see temples etc and interest in architecture, its Southern state you should visit. Kerala is beautiful. Goa and Mumbai are also worth it.

Madhya Peadesh has its own beauties .

North east states are also beautiful.

Actually India as a whole worth a visit. Where do you want to go depends on your interests. You will get snow clad hills, sea beaches, deserts, and forests. I hope you can bear some extreme weather . It can be too hot and too cold at times and in different seasons.
